Female and Male Terminals
1. The material for female or male terminals shall be copper alloy, or plated copper alloy, nickel, or nickel alloy.
Exception: Where the construction of the appliance or device permits, female or male terminals may be made of plated sheet metal or unplated corrosion-resistant alloy.
2. In cases where formed female terminals or trimmed male terminals are supplied in strip form-such that the terminals are crimped and separated from the strip during continuous feeding into processing tools-the edges where the terminals were connected to the strip need not be plated.
Standard TerminalsThe material for standard terminals used in mechanical performance tests, terminal mating/unmating tests, and the insertion-withdrawal tests described in Section 11 shall be unplated brass equivalent to alloy C26000.
Standard terminals used in temperature and thermal cycling tests shall be made of tin-plated sheet metal or corrosion-resistant steel, with a hardness of 68 ± 5 on the Rockwell 30T scale.
Exception: If a female terminal is intended solely for connection with a copper-alloy male terminal, then a standard terminal made of C26000 copper alloy shall be used for testing. 2.3 The hardness of standard terminals made of brass shall be 62 ± 7 on the Rockwell 30T scale.
