Terminal blocks can be recycled; their metal parts (copper, aluminum, etc.) hold significant value for recovery, and their plastic housings (PA66/PBT, etc.) can also be recycled following proper sorting and processing.
Metal components: The main body is typically made of copper, aluminum, or phosphor bronze; these materials offer excellent conductivity and suitable melting points, making them high-value items for scrap metal recycling that can be directly melted down and reprocessed.
Plastic components: Insulating housings are commonly made from engineering plastics such as PA66 or PBT. While these materials do not biodegrade easily, they can be processed-via shredding, washing, and sorting-into raw materials for recycled plastic; some newer designs incorporate detachable features to improve recyclability.
Mixed processing: Discarded terminal blocks generally undergo a process of "disassembly/separation – washing – sorting – melting/granulation," with the metal and plastic components entering their respective recycling streams.
